EASY WHOLE WHEAT BREAD..........with wacky ingredients.

We had a few days of cold weather last week and that can only mean one thing....
Time to bake some bread.....
Most of you know that my favorite bread of all time is
Rosemary Lemon No knead.....recipe can be found here....
But not having prepped the dough the night before I needed something I could
whip up fairly quick....
I happened to have some King Arthur Whole Wheat Flour left over from
my Dog Biscuit Days.....so turning to a recipe on the back of the bag.....
I took my chances and tried their version of
No-Knead 100% Whole Wheat Bread....
and it didn't disappoint! With a rise time of only 90 minutes.....
It was baked up in no time....
I was fascinated by some of the ingredients....I expected it to be sweet....
Having never made Whole Wheat bread before....I was surprised when it neither had a taste
of the orange juice that went into it or the sweetness from the
maple syrup....
How healthy this bread is I have no idea....
But it was tasty...
a little more dense then I am normally used to.....it made for a great
sandwich bread....
I made "Hot Egg Salad"....with a tad bit of Dijon mustard...a little Romaine lettuce...
and a nice sliced Dill pickle on the side....
Your wondering where the picture of the sandwich is??
It was eaten so fast that I thought about taking it's picture....
After the Fact...
But trust me is was delicious....
Here is the recipe if you would like to give it a try.....

1 cup of lukewarm water
1/4 cup of orange juice
1/4 cup of melted butter or vegetable oil
3 tablespoons of Maple Syrup
2 teaspoons of instant yeast
1/4 cup of nonfat dry milk
3 cups of 100% whole wheat flour
1 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Thoroughly grease an 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" pan....Grease very well as this bread will stick....
I also used a piece of greased Parchment paper on the bottom of the pan...
Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl. Beat the mixture vigorously for about 3 minutes
I used my Kitchen Aid with the dough hook...Scoop the soft dough into the
prepared pan....
Cover the pan with lightly greased plastic wrap and let it rise for 90 minutes...It will
become very puffy.....I let mine rise covered inside the microwave so there would
be no drafts....
Bake the bread in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 30-35....tenting it with
tin foil after the first 15 minutes.....The bread is done when it's golden brown on top
and an instant read thermometer inserted in the center registers 195 degrees...
Remove from oven and after 5 minutes turn it out onto a cooling rack.....
Cool completely before cutting.....
I couldn't wait that long.....I had my sandwich on warm bread.....
It was simple to make...
and the smell was heavenly....
Bon Apetit!!

Does this recipe have more than 3 ingredients? (Yes, so not for me) Do I have a dough hook for my Kitchen Aid? (If so, where is it?) Do I have a thermometer? (Yes, but it is the kind you stick up a baby's you know what!) Guess you'll have to come up with a different recipe to get me into the kitchen!! Cooking aside - how are you? Hope everything is going well. We're doing great enjoying our winter. Sally

Okay girlfriend - is there anything you can't do - bake - or make? And the love that goes into it is incredible.

Again thanks.

I baked some french bread today. Yours was probably healthier. Good snowy weather always makes me want to bake. Mimi

Move on over Pioneer Woman as here comes Sue! You are right as the OJ does make it wacky but the acid in the OJ must make for a fast chemical reaction. I bet it toasts well too. Looks delicious. Appreciate the review of any recipe that is quick.

Your bread looks so delicious, Sue! My problem is that i would sit down with a tub of butter and eat the whole loaf in one sitting. There is nothing like hot bread right out of the oven! Yum!

It looks really good! I thorw a little oj in my soda bread too. It can't hurt, and we won't get scurvy! :)

I haven't made bread in a long time. It makes such delicious sandwiches. Great looking loaf, Sue.

Well, what a coincidence! You heard about Cranberry Almond Cake, and I posted one. I've got a No Knead whole wheat bread, getting ready to go into the oven! Great minds think alike. So nice to meet you! Thanks for leaving a lovely comment.
