SATURDAY MORNINGS IN GEORGIA.........

For the past almost 30 years.....
If I'm missing on a Saturday morning this is where I
Can be Found...
My favorite Farmers Market...
Burger's of Marietta Georgia...

Getting out the the car this morning this was the first
Thing I saw....
They were everywhere...
Flowers of all descriptions....
Located on the industrial end of one of our
Major Roads in the County....I am always surprised
when I hear that anyone who has lived in Marietta
for any length of time does not know about this place...
year round....I go for our weekly
Tomato Fix...
I haven't mastered actually buying a plant and
being successful growing my own....
So Burger's is my go to place
for the Best Tomatoes in Town...

All the veggies and fruits are located inside the
building...so year round it feels like
Summer..
I love Vidalia Onions...
they are wonderful roasted with
Parmesan cheese..
the corn this year is fabulous...

And this is what I came for Today....
Why not try making my own pickles...
These looked interesting....
We love Heirloom Tomatoes
with Mozzarella and Basil......

I buy pounds of these each week....all year long...
great price...always good...
The Boss eats tomatoes with every meal...
Even Breakfast....
I swear that is what keeps him so healthy....
Perfect for Taylor Ham..Cheese and Tomato...
on a Hard roll....
(ask any person from Jersey about this)
they also sell jams and jellies...
Here is their "Toe Jam"....
First time I have ever seen a Purple Pepper....

Picking Okra is a Cook's Art form....
they have to be small....blemish free...
for the best Okra with Stewed Tomatoes..
Something called Yellow Root Tea....
Still not 100% Southern...
I have no idea what in the hell this is....
But it appears that it's World Famous....
I love this time of year and I have to say I know
Georgia is the "Peach State"
But I love these South Carolina Peaches...
White Peaches are great in Iced Tea...
I love these and use them to make a wonderful
Peach Cream Pie with
Chocolate cookie crust...
Peaches and Chocolate actually are a better
combination then strawberries and chocolate...
Fried Green Tomatoes....
This is what we use!!
It's Georgia.....you gotta have Peanuts!
And last but not least....Making my Saturdays even
more of a pleasure....
Barbara...the cashier...the nicest lady in the
Fruit and Vegetable Business....
This was today's haul...
6 ears of corn...a whole Lotta Okra...
Tomatoes...a pepper....and those
Pickling Cucumbers....
All for $11.28....
Gotta Love Burger's.....
And what am I going to do with the
Pickling cukes....
Well....Dear Joyce sent me a subscription to
Fine Cooking magazine...and in it was....
A recipe for pickles called...
"Half Sours"...
I love going to Ted's for their Half Sours...
And hopefully I will be able to master the
Art of Pickling....
stay tuned....

JERSEY BOYS......A MOVIE REVIEW.

Being a "Jersey" girl I feel that I am Fully Qualified
to Review this weekends movie for all
People over the age of 60!
"Jersey Boys"
of course the story of the 60's group
The Four Seasons....
Hearing for years how fabulous the Broadway Play is
we were fortunate two weeks ago to see
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in person at
The Cobb Energy Center here in Marietta....
For those who didn't see my comments on Facebook..
The show was Fantastic....No it was better then that.
Frankie....who is now (according to everything online)
Is 80 years old....the Boss swears that has to be a mistake...
Sang his heart out for 2 full hours...
Sounding the same as he did back in the 60's....
The entire audience....even high up in the balcony were on their
Feet singing and dancing along....
So going to see the movie...was a hard act to follow....
First and foremost....me and the Boss disagreed about
the directing....He thought Clint Eastwood did a great Job...
I....on the other hand....thought Marty Scorsese would have
done a little bit better....
He is...after all...the King of using the characters to talk
right to the camera...something that was done throughout this movie...
He also is the master of using song in movies....I thought
Clint just fell a bit short...
a little corny at times you will recognize Italian actors
from the Sopranos....of course....and most recently
Boardwalk Empire....
One of the Four Seasons is played by the actor who played
Lucky Luciano in Boardwalk....
The movie is long and goes from his days as a teen when he first started singing with the other guys who went through more
group names then you can imagine before
finding a hit with the name
The Four Seasons...
Lot's of money troubles caused my "Tommy" or Lucky as
I looked at him as....
It follows their lives right through till 1990 when they get
back together after 20 some years to get inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame....
The actor who played Frankie was good but I didn't think
he was great...I think that "voice" could only belong to
Frankie....
Christopher Walkin fans will be disappointed that he was not
in the movie more then a few short scenes....
My favorite part was the end credits....Not because the movie was over.....but if you go....stay until the credits roll...
The entire cast sings and dances down a street singing their hit song...
"Oh What a Night".....
One big thing I thought was not accurate and my Rahway Buds
will have to let me know if they feel the same way about this...
In the beginning of the movie two of the Four get sent away
to Rahway State Prison....
They all pronounced it "Rah- Way".....like the cheer...
Rah Rah....
We have always.... since childhood....and come on that's where we  are from....pronounce it...
"Raw-Way"....

That was my only complaint.....You gotta have that right
Raw-way accent....it's a Jersey thing....
I give the movie a B....the Boss would probably say an
A+.....all it was missing was someone singing
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight"....
and every man who grew up during the 60's
would make this their favorite movie ever....

here is a professional review of the movie....
one last thought...they could have used a better
dialogue coach...

HOW ABOUT SECONDS ON THE CAKE??

Company was coming!!
Maureen and Ed...our neighbors who
we have been trying to get together with
Forever were coming for Sunday Lunch
and some Pool Time...
Time to bake...
But not too difficult....I had to make
food too...so having my last baking
endeavor be a big hit I thought why not...
I dragged out my Mary Ann fancy pan from
Williams Sonoma...a gift from daughter...
and with a box of Strawberry Supreme cake mix....
Oh no Sue...you used a box mix?
Yes I did...and it's fabulous....just don't ask who makes
it..
It was either Duncan or Pillsbury...
some Jello Strawberry Cream instant pudding
(found at Walmart)
mixed with 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of heavy cream
which I whipped then folded together...
Some big juicy strawberries and this cake
is a hit...
For those of you who don't know what the
Mary Ann pan is... in reality it could be the
"Mary Jane" pan but it's from W & S if your looking
for one....
It has a big well on top for you to add filling...
The flowers I had bought for the week set the
color theme...
plus I love color....

the table was set from the night
Before...
I have a great dining room but for ease
of serving and for not being stuffy...
I love to eat in the kitchen...

You can never have
too many dishes!!
actually melamine
I love the pattern..
but I really love
anything with Flags...
and all bloggers know you can mix and
Match...
Fostoria glasses along side
glasses from the Dollar Tree.
When I was in love with Ikea...
I think these were $2.99
I am not happy these days with
Ikea...
they must have a new buyer...
Their new selection of dishes and
Housewares is horrific....
a man must have done the ordering... :)

so patriotic!
so 1940-ish
These also came from Ikea @ $1.99 each
They are great to put out around
the Table...
Lemonade...Ice Tea...
Water....Nice for people to just
Help themselves...

my attempt to show you the food...
until I got busy and forgot to
take pics of the rest...
We had pulled pork...baked beans...
cole slaw....corn on the cob...
the world's best recipe for Mac and Cheese...
Okra and stewed tomatoes...
Maureen brought a wonderful
Broccoli Slaw....such a great crunchy taste
using fried Ramen Noodles and
Almonds...
the view!
And the Best
View!!

if you like Strawberries...
Try this wonderful cake...
Even after eating two pieces when I got
on the scale this morning I was 1/2 pound
lighter....
So of course...I had another piece for
Breakfast....
Bon Apetit!!
