I SEE DEAD PEOPLE.........a Blog Pause.

Daughter got a call on Wednesday at 4:00 a.m. from our home town Police Force.....
It seems the "Big Boss" called them after seeing
women in his closet and a dead man hanging from his Ceiling Fan....
Only Problem.......He doesn't have any ceiling fans in his house...
Daughter...... having to make the decision what to do with him.....since we were home in
Georgia sound asleep....and unable to hear even a bomb go off...
Had the police take him to the local hospital......
Now the BB is heading towards 90 in a few months....
He lives alone and still drives....
We have been trying to get him into an Assisted Living Home for the past three years...
He refused to budge....
He refused to let anyone into the house..
We also tried to get him to give up his license....to no avail....
The sad part is we could not get anyone to assist us...
His doctor told us years ago that he was a grown man and we couldn't tell him what to do....
So back to the ER this Wednesday he was checked out by two doctors who decided he needed to be admitted
This was done after they watched him for 15 hours and he
didn't change his story about seeing dead people......
He also had no idea that he was in a hospital.
It seems there is an old age dementia that causes people to think they can see
Dead People....
How hard is this to believe....and scary.
Can you imagine someone behind the wheel of a car who is seeing dead people....Not good.
He is still sitting in the hospital not knowing what day it is and our hands are tied because of
the HIPPA law.....
And the doctors that put him there will not cooperate and sign the forms for the courts to appoint the
Boss as his guardian so we can make medical decisions for him
They stated that "We don't participate in things like that".....
I will be taking a Long Pause from blogging to help out with
finding him good care and taking care of his affairs....
The husband and daughter can't do it alone...
So......I will be back "hopefully" not too long from now....
Until then.....thank you ahead of time for the comments that I know you will leave....
We all appreciate it....
***I will still be reading all your blogs because something tells me I am going to need some
"me time"....

BUYING A NEW SOFA???...........then read this first.

After Boo passed away in September we decided that it was time to purchase
a New Sofa.....
It had probably been 25 years and it was just time....
So while I was shopping one day in a large retail establishment.... That She advertises for.....?
Oh and wait.....He advertisers for them also.....?

Okay now where all on the same page....
Their biggest Cheerleader...
So.....I wandered through their furniture department remembering that
my pal Joyce had gotten her sofa here and her sofa was pretty nice....
I came across this on sale....

We live very casually....after all I have three stuffed animal heads on my
Great Room Wall...
So when I saw this corduroy sofa in navy blue it appealed to me...
They had the sofa in two sizes....

But more importantly it was super comfortable....very bouncy....
So I dragged back the Boss while the sale was still on....
Ofcourse this particular store never has anything that Isn't on Sale.....
And not only did we buy one but we bought two....
Sorta a "His" and Hers".....
Both myself and the Boss are not lightweight people so we were impressed by how
sturdy the cushions were....
I sold furniture for many years and the first thing I asked was "is there inner springs?"
"Yes".....I was told....so we became the proud owners of two new sofa's.....

You can't even imagine where this story is going but please read on.....
It might save you a hassle down the road....
We had the sofa's a week or so when the Boss noticed that the corduroy fabric looked worn on one of his cushions....No problem...it looked to me just like a fabric flaw...
So I called the Sales Person and asked if we could get a new cushion....
Nope....Have to get a whole new sofa....
"Can we swap it out with the floor model cushion?"......No No No.....we can't allow that"
Delivery guy came with a whole new sofa.......I headed him off at the driveway and simply took a new cushion off the new sofa and sent him on his way....
Great......Ofcourse Not....
Another week passes and I find the same problem with one of my cushions.....
I call back and I'm told the sofa's have been discontinued...
"Can I just come into the store and swap them out for the floor model".....
"Nope....You can't.....isn't allowed...."
But I like my sofa's and I don't want to return them.....
So I bypass the sales floor people and customer service arranges for me to
Swap Out the Cushion with the Floor Model....
Now please take a good look at the above picture and tell me what's wrong....

Take a real good look....that center cushion is Their Floor Model Cushion....
the two on either side are from the original sofa that was delivered to us....
See something funny??
See how the center (Theirs) is higher then Ours....
Theirs is really bouncy and firm....
Ours....not so bouncy and not the same size....
Oh it can't be.....Did they sell us one thing and delivered something else....
YOU BET.....

Back at the store......the above picture is their sofa....
This is Their Floor Model.....with "OUR" center cushion.....
When we brought home the floor model cushion we sat on it and noticed considerably the difference.....Big Bounce.....ours.....little bounce....
Big cushion.....little cushion....
And remember this is the second cushion we have gotten....the first one "delivered" to us was the same as on the rest of the sofa....
The store cushion.....not the same...
The Boss at first didn't want to address this problem....
But after we went back to the store a few days later to pay our bill and we saw the floor model with our cushion....Well....I got the go ahead to raise all kinds of Hell.....

After explaining my credentials to the General Manager .....
30 odd years in retail selling home furnishings...
and after I walked him over to the sofa and showed him the cushions....
Well....what could he say....NOTHING.....he politely asked me what I wanted....
The floor models had since been reduced so I asked for the marked down price....
No Problem....He was very nice.....he adjusted our bill and sent me on my way..
I was happy with the discount and He Knew that I Knew what was going one....
The old bait and switch....
You buy one thing.....and they switch it out with one of lesser quality.....

Well.....that's not the end of the story.....
The other day....I was turning over the cushions...I do this every week for even wear....
When I went to lift up one of the side cushions my hand literally went right into the side of the cushion.....There is a huge hole in the foam....it's actually collapsing....

Service is coming out on March 9th.....
In the meantime I have put a call through to their corporate office in NYC to speak to their furniture buyer.....
I would like to think.....since I Worked for This Company for 10 years back in the 70's....
That they have no idea that the manufacturer is doing this....
They will know about it now.....

I know Cheri......your going to say "This can only happen to Sue".....
But I would like to think that I was put on this earth to catch people at doing bad things.....
And to Call them on it....

It was freezing...

EASY WHOLE WHEAT BREAD..........with wacky ingredients.

We had a few days of cold weather last week and that can only mean one thing....
Time to bake some bread.....
Most of you know that my favorite bread of all time is
Rosemary Lemon No knead.....recipe can be found here....
But not having prepped the dough the night before I needed something I could
whip up fairly quick....
I happened to have some King Arthur Whole Wheat Flour left over from
my Dog Biscuit Days.....so turning to a recipe on the back of the bag.....
I took my chances and tried their version of
No-Knead 100% Whole Wheat Bread....
and it didn't disappoint! With a rise time of only 90 minutes.....
It was baked up in no time....
I was fascinated by some of the ingredients....I expected it to be sweet....
Having never made Whole Wheat bread before....I was surprised when it neither had a taste
of the orange juice that went into it or the sweetness from the
maple syrup....
How healthy this bread is I have no idea....
But it was tasty...
a little more dense then I am normally used to.....it made for a great
sandwich bread....
I made "Hot Egg Salad"....with a tad bit of Dijon mustard...a little Romaine lettuce...
and a nice sliced Dill pickle on the side....
Your wondering where the picture of the sandwich is??
It was eaten so fast that I thought about taking it's picture....
After the Fact...
But trust me is was delicious....
Here is the recipe if you would like to give it a try.....

1 cup of lukewarm water
1/4 cup of orange juice
1/4 cup of melted butter or vegetable oil
3 tablespoons of Maple Syrup
2 teaspoons of instant yeast
1/4 cup of nonfat dry milk
3 cups of 100% whole wheat flour
1 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Thoroughly grease an 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" pan....Grease very well as this bread will stick....
I also used a piece of greased Parchment paper on the bottom of the pan...
Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl. Beat the mixture vigorously for about 3 minutes
I used my Kitchen Aid with the dough hook...Scoop the soft dough into the
prepared pan....
Cover the pan with lightly greased plastic wrap and let it rise for 90 minutes...It will
become very puffy.....I let mine rise covered inside the microwave so there would
be no drafts....
Bake the bread in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 30-35....tenting it with
tin foil after the first 15 minutes.....The bread is done when it's golden brown on top
and an instant read thermometer inserted in the center registers 195 degrees...
Remove from oven and after 5 minutes turn it out onto a cooling rack.....
Cool completely before cutting.....
I couldn't wait that long.....I had my sandwich on warm bread.....
It was simple to make...
and the smell was heavenly....
Bon Apetit!!

A VERY SOUTHERN BABY SHOWER...........

I had the Pleasure recently of being invited to a True Southern
Baby Shower....
My good friend "Dottie's"......of those mini aprons fame.....son and his wife
were about to have their first child and there was going to be a party....
Being hosted by a family friend who just happened to live in one of our town's
Big Old Colonial homes located off the Marietta Square...
I was thrilled to be invited...
I mean who doesn't love going to a Baby Shower!Wish I could have taken a photo of the outside of the house but I didn't want to seem
Creepy.....
But....When I walked in I felt like I was in Martha Stewart's Home...
It was gorgeous....
So Colonial.....So very Southern.....I took a few shots while the guests were
Arriving before anyone asked what I was doing...

I loved all the bright colors used in all the rooms....
I wanted to photograph the kitchen with it's 1940's apple green walls and it's
Black and White checker board floor....
But I got caught...

Beautiful furniture and Oye!!....the window treatments....I happen to love anything
With fringe!

After everyone arrived we were summoned into the dining room to eat
before gifts were opened....

Every good Southern Party I'm told has to have some sort of punch....
We also feasted on pasta salad...chicken salad on mini croissants...mini meatballs...
cheese trays and fruit salad....
And ofcourse Cake!
Complete with Miss Leah's monogram....

Dottie's daughter was co-host and hung these adorable clothes in front of the
Fireplace....Oh So Girlie...

Gifts......there were Lots of Gifts...

Baby clothes are the best.....
You could tell all the Grandmothers in the room.....As they passed the gifts around
We all had to feel the fabric....and I don't know how many times I heard....
"When my kids were little things weren't this soft"....
Never too young to worry about taking care of the Tootsies!

She received tons and tons of the cutest little girl outfits....

Here's the Mom To Be with a new version of the Sock Monkey....
