AN OPEN LETTER TO MY NEIGHBORS.......AT PAPER CHASE FARM.

AS I APPROACH  MY 64TH BIRTHDAY I DECIDED IT WAS TIME I GET SOME MUCH NEEDED EXERCISE....NOT A BIG FAN OF WALKING I THOUGHT BIKE RIDING MIGHT BE JUST THE TICKET TO GET ME UP AND OUT OF THE HOUSE....LET ME BEGIN BY SAYING I HAVE NOT RIDDEN A BIKE SINCE 1958....WITH THAT BEING SAID IF YOU SEE ME ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD BE IT ON TARPLEY PLACE OR IN ONE OF THE CUL DE SACS OR ON TARPLEY ROAD PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT I HAVE NOT RIDDEN A BIKE SINCE 1958.....

PLEASE DON’T LAUGH....POINT OR STARE....I’M THE WOBBLY WOMEN ON THE BRIGHT ORANGE BIKE WITH THE CUTE BASKET....NO HELMET....I REFUSE TO WEAR A HELMET....MY HUSBAND MIGHT BE CLOSE BY.....OR NOT.

I HAVE STILL NOT MASTERED WHERE MY FEET BELONG....THEY CAN’T SEEM TO STAY ON THOSE CRAZY PEDDLES........I CAN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GO AROUND CORNERS WITHOUT HAVING TO STOP......

I’M STILL WALKING THE BIKE UP HILLS....YES....WE DO HAVE HILLS....SMALL AS THEY ARE... IT’S A BITCH TRYING TO PEDDLE UP THEM WITH 64 YEAR OLD LEGS.....

THOSE PESKY SPEED BUMPS....FORGET ABOUT IT....THEY GET ME NERVOUS AND IF YOUR COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION JUST STAY CLEAR IF YOU SEE ME COMING....I DIDN’T MEAN TO SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF WHOEVER IT WAS WHO SAW ME FALTER LAST EVENING AS THEY PASSED BY....

IT’S NOT EASY STEERING WHEN YOUR HANDS ARE ON THE HANDLE BARS WITH THE “DEATH GRIP”....YOU TEND TO SWAY.... CONSIDER ME  A WORK IN PROGRESS... SO PLEASE KEEP IN MIND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE 65.... SO SHOULD YOU EVER COME DOWN THE STREET AND YOU SEE ME LYING WITH THE ORANGE BIKE ON TOP OF ME PLEASE CALL 911....

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION AND I WILL TRY MY BEST NOT TO RUN IN TO YOUR CAR....HIT YOUR DOG..... OR DRIVE UP ON YOUR LAWN.....

You brave soul!! I also haven't ridden a bike since 1958, but I don't intend to start again now. So, I can only say -- GO FOR IT! And, I hope they don't have to scrape you off the pavement - I'll pray for you. Sally

This is a good time of year to start bike riding. I have orders from my docs to only ride a tricycle. lol Hubby told me we could get matching ones. :) The dogs would love it because I could take them all with me since I don't have to balance. :)
Enjoy the ride! And be safe!

Hey you sound like Kermit - and it's not easy to be green!

It's not easy being 60 something on a bike - with hills and speed bumps.

This I know because I am a 60 something too.

It is hard enough being a 60 something!

They say, it's just like riding a bike,,,,lol.

Please wear a helmet though.

Good for you, Sue.
You'll do fine... I have faith in you. We have had bikes for I don't know how many years and the tires have gotten flat from NOT riding them. LOL
We keep saying we'll get back on them....

Hooray for you, Sue...you are braver than I am! Happy riding...
I bought a pretty mint green 20 speed last year, but have yet to ride it...it is sitting pretty in the garage...I even dust it off once in awhile.

Way to go, Sue! Who knows, you may end up being one of those women we read about - you know, the one who, in an interview after the 250 mile bike race says 'I didn't start to ride seriously until I was 64, and then it just all came back to me and before I knew it I was entering races.'

Naughty bike! Hang in there! Old legs don't work so well uphill with anything.

Well good for you. Starting a new exercise program and still keeping your sense of humor in tact.

I am sure your neighbors will take pity on you and they might even dial 911 in an emergency.

It will all come back to you Sue! I'm not a big fan of walking for walking sake. Seems silly to feel that way, but I just don't see the point of going for a walk without a destination. I find it all a bit boring. I keep meaning to get my bike out and ready for a ride. I need the exercise. You have inspired me, I'm getting those tires pumped up and hitting the road starting today. We'll ride together ;>)

I don't care what the saying is, once you know how to ride a bike it does NOT necessarily come right back to you :)
I nearly killed myself on MV about 18 years ago trying to ride a bike with hand brakes for the first time... bike didn't want to cooperate when I tried to brake with the pedals.
My daughter, who talked me into this fiasco, got her first grey hairs on that ride.
I did ride 18 miles that day though so which proved either I was determined or stupid :)

Haha...good luck with that, Sue. I would end up in the bushes for sure. I could never get the hang of hand brakes.

I gave away my bike when we moved to this house in the mid 90s. I'll stick with walking. '-)
Be careful!

So funny to read, good for you. We are planning on getting fold up bikes to put in the car when we are out geocaching, saves walking all the way back to the car after walking all along the bike/walk route. You gave me a good laugh here in Scotland reading about your bike outing. Good luck.
