DINER CHINA....A PETITE PANTRY AND AN AWARD!

Tanya over at The Sunday Baker had a challenge recently about pantries.....I thought I would share my petite, yet over filled pantry with you today even though it is more china closet then a true pantry......Atleast it got organized for the photo shoot....It started as a closet, a kitchen should not have closets....so we took off the ugly door and replaced it with a French 10 light door....Once you can see inside any kind of kitchen storage area your forced to keep it neat...... so instead of food stuff I dressed it up with my vast collection of diner china....Yes, those big heavy white plates, sometimes with names on them, that you find in diners of the 1940's....I love this stuff and have enough plates, bowls and coffee cups to feed an army.......It's really very fitting since I'm from Jersey and everyone knows that Jersey is the "Diner Capital of the World"......I have been buying pieces at flea markets for years and just recently picked up a big haul over at the Goodwill thanks to Manuela at the Pleasures of Homemaking who has made an art out of transforming finds from Goodwill into fabulous decorating pieces.....I also want to thank her for giving me the Georgia Friends Award and I am happy that we have become friends through the blogging world.....

I adore old diner china, especially old creamers, of which you have some nice ones of. I remember my folks, in the 50's using these when we'd eat out, and they'd order coffee.
Your pantry looks great!

At just about the same time, we both posted cupboards with china. We must be thinking alike. I love the diner china - also like railroad china. What I have picked up over the years I've given to our son. He likes it because it is so 'manly'!!! Sally

Gosh thank you so much for that tip on the spaghetti sauce. I love the Bertolli alfredo sauce with linguini and tilapia. Mom and I are talking about taking an Italian cooking class from a local Italian lady in April. I hope to make pasta.

Mom has a bunch of diner dishes. I think I want some. But actually I want every dish set I see.

OK, well, when I said I had some diner china I actually only have about 10 little bowls. And a couple of little white creamers. NOTHING like your extensive collection. We use our little bowls almost everyday. My name is Susan and I always wanted to be Suzanne. It seemed so much more exotic when I was 8. Mimi

PS You're right about M.O.'s outfits. I wasn't too crazy about what she wore on election night either. Mimi

Love your diner china, Sue!

Your pantry looks a lot neater than mine, which reminds me, I really should clean it out.

I miss going to the diner! There was a really good one in Hackensack that had THE best rice pudding...and there's nothing like breakfast at a NJ or NY diner. We went to that huge diner on 41 (forget the name) last week and were really dissapointed!

I wish I had a nice closet to stack dishes in like yours! I have closet envy now!

Gee....your dish fetish looks like my book fetish. But my pantry looks nothing like yours...yours is cute and organized...mine is a big old mess beyond belief. I would die if anyone walked in there and saw it lol. I'd like to say you inspired me to organize mine....but that would require work...and I just don't have the gumption!

LOVE your diner china (of course I do...I live in Jersey! :-) and I think I most love the "Life is too short to cook for you people" sign. HA! Your petite cabinet is pretty largely awesome.

I have a pantry that has a lazy Susan in it. No not a person named Susan who is lazy. Heehee. But on of the going around thingies. I hate it. Wasted us of space. I want to take that out and put in shelves. Then I can change the door to a glass panel door and I would have a cool pantry too!
