My father was orphaned when he was 7 and was turned over to relatives but spent more time on his own in the streets and relying on the NY neighborhood shopkeepers. Both my real dad and step dad only made it to the 8th grade, also, and my mom got as far as 11th grade. Times were hard and they were needed to help either at home or financially getting some farm or household work. It is great that you have these wonderful gifts for yourself and to share.
