HOUSE HUNTER "REJECTS"..........OR HOW WE WENT FROM T.V STARS TO HAS BEENS.

We have been looking at houses for the past 12 years......
Yes...that's right people.....12 long years....
We are known up and down the EAST COAST as "those people"
from the Jersey Shore to Atlanta I don't even know how many houses over the years
We have looked at.....
In anticipation of this Day........
We were ready for "House Hunters"....
I mean any two Smucks that have looked at houses for that long deserve to be on
T.V.
So the minute I knew a new house was finally in our near future I contacted the folks at
HGTV....
I filled out the extensive application including the requested "photo" of Us.....
Perhaps using a picture of me and the Boss where we resemble
Carmelo and Tony Soprano was not such a clever idea....
Leather jackets......sunglasses and a Fedora....
Perhaps Overkill but I wanted us to appear HIP and YOUNG....
Not Old and Stodgy....

I heard back from producer Lori Hirsch within two days......saying that as soon as we
had an accepted offer and we had a closing date to contact them....
We were thrilled.......our Realtor....Anet Granger of Tina Fountain Realty here in
Atlanta was ecstatic.....
I mean me and the Boss on House Hunters.......how entertaining would we be......
and the House we bought was gorgeous.....T.V. eye candy..
Now we all know in Blogland that House Hunters is a bit on the fake side....
The new Homeowners already have purchased the home and the other two
"Choices" are just made up houses.....so all that gushing is pure
theatrics....
But Hey......we didn't have a problem with that..... we can say
"Oh look Dear it has windows".......Or
"We might consider this house but I really don't like the color of the paint in the Bathroom"
With the Best of them....

But it wasn't to be......Lori Dissed us and we were shocked to say the least.....
Her reason was two fold.....
You need to be in both your old existing home and be in your new home at the same time....
Okay....No problem with that....We are not at this time selling our current home...
Second....
They can't film around "renovations".....
The house is 2 years old.....No renovations needed Ms. Hirsch.....
We are putting in a pool but I said we could wait for that work to begin after filming....
Never heard back.....so I figure it's only one of two things.....
We are either too OLD or Too Ethnic.......
How about a New Reality Show???
"The New Italian House Owners of Cobb County"
I think it would work....
Bravo and Andy Cohen Are You On Board????

So to Hell with House Hunters......Here is our own version for your
Viewing Pleasure.....
Three houses.....you decide which one we picked..

HOUSE #1
ORIGINALLY OFFERED AT $1,100,000.00
LOWERED TO $700,000.00 back in October of 2010
on the market now for $559,900.00
4800 sq. ft.
5 bedrooms.....4 1/2 baths.....two laundry rooms...
Bad feature.......located in West Cobb County....only bad because I was never fond of
the West Side of Town....

Massive Master Bedroom.....I was thinking......"Snore Barrier".....
I mean in a room this large with that ceiling surely the Boss' snoring might be muffled....
But look at where all the air conditioning would go.....

For a minute I thought this was a shrine to the Homeowners Baby.....
Portraits were everywhere....
But it was the living area off the Master Bedroom.....
Nice fireplace though.....a very large master bath off this room.....a big walk in room
As your Closet....

House #2
Great side of town in the Fancy Schmancy "East Cobb"....
Heck these people even have a Facebook page called the
"East Cobb Snobs"....
which I am a member.....only because I live in that Zip Code....
No Fanciness at the current Manse...
Sold a few years ago for over $800,000.00
currently on the market since last August at $669,000.00
5 bedrooms/4 1/2 baths....
a bit less square footage then house #1....

A "Great" Room with vaulted ceiling and antique recycled wood built ins
a wonderful backyard and a brick floored screened in porch.....Lovin the screened in porch....

Magnificent Kitchen.....The Main Thing on my Wish List was a fabulous Kitchen
And Anet didn't disappoint.....
My other request was a built in pool......No Jersey Way of the "Above Ground"
Oh and it has to be heated....maybe throw in an attached spa with waterfall.....

House #3.....
Roswell Georgia with low Cobb County Taxes....The best of both...
beautiful all brick and stone home and Huge.......
The house has an elevator.....but don't get too excited....it's a handicapped one in glass
that sits right in the middle of the Family room....
Selling at $679,000.00
A great river rock arched fireplace in the "Keeping Room" off the kitchen....
Big kitchen but nothing fancy......GE appliances....
the Master bedroom and bath were ginormous.....
a very lovely house in the best part of town....
Actually My first choice for location...

None of these homes had pools.....
SO......Which one do you think we picked?????
Which one would you have chosen???

We picked House Number.......

One!!!!
The ultimate "coupon" purchase.....
We are Frivolous but not Stupid......
This house was built and was valued at over a Million Dollars and we basically got it
For Half off......
Our final Price was $537,000.00
enough left over to put in that pool and spa.....Yes, it will be heated!
And we have enough left over to furnish the Joint......
The Sub-division looks like it stepped out of Colonial Williamsburg....
Brick sidewalks.....every home is gated....wood shingled roofs....
Timeless Looking....
And let's talk property taxes.....
When the Boss turns 62 next month we will be exempt from school taxes....
The taxes should go down to about $2,000.00 for the year....
New Jersey do you hear that????

A small hint at what the kitchen looks like......It is unbelievable....and the Current
Homeowner is not a cook.....she has never used the Wolf Range or Oven....
The big Sub-Zero side by side was filled with Frozen Totino's Pizza
Which she cooks in the Microwave.......Oye!

I hope you enjoyed our Version of House Hunters......
"Boss and Wife" style....
I will enjoy over the next couple of months showing you how I decorate it....
The taxidermy deer head will be moving in along with our framed
"Kramer"
daughter is humiliated at the thought but Hey.....that's our Personality....
A house has to have Personality.....

House Hunters does not know what they passed on.....
We still enjoy driving around our new Hood checking out and critiquing other
peoples houses....Good and the Bad.....
We own 9 cars so depending upon the exclusivity of the neighborhood we drive the
appropriate car. After all we have our reputation to uphold and we don't want the police
to be called....We even came up with a name should HGTV ever come calling.....
"HOUSE STALKERS".....

MY LAST FIVE MONTHS............more or less.

Five Months go by slowly when your in New Jersey
This Sign on I-95 proclaims
"Welcome to New Jersey"
But they really don't mean it.....

But we were there for a mission and that included spending time with our beloved
Miss "B"
Me and daughter promptly hit up the Philadelphia Flower Show at Joyce's
Advise.....
The orchids were beautiful but between me and daughter we had little interest in the
whole Flower Thing.....
Heck....it didn't even smell good...
Speaking of smelling we had to clean out the Big Boss' house after he passed away....
No easy task as the man had hoarded food since the early 80's....
Hundreds of cans of "stuff" like sardines and soy sauce marked with a
Sharpie marker from 1986?
Don't Ask.....
We have no idea where this man shopped.....
he dated these 8/92
Shortly after arriving the Boss got sick of driving my Bug so treated himself
To what "B" calls the "Snake Car"
a Mustang GT500 Cobra....Oye!!!
I drove it about 20 feet and couldn't get it out of 2nd. gear....
A trip to Atlantic City was a must......
I had not been to the Steel Pier since I was a kid....
I'm happy to report that it's turned into a dump...
But I had to stop at Fralinger's for Salt Water Taffy
Thanks to daughter we stayed at the beautiful
Water Club....
And thanks to me I discovered in the food court at the Bellagio
Philly Cheese Steaks By
Tony Luke's...
The Best cheese steaks EVER!!!!!!!!
Daughter also treated me to a show with Kathy Griffin.....
Now I know a lot of people really dislike her but I have to say she was
Hysterical.....it was two hours of Non-Stop laughter....
And then the Boss decided two cars were better then one......

And then it was Easter.....
and sleeping on an air mattress was starting to get to our backs.....
But we hung in there.....
because there were still important things ahead
Like celebrating my Best Friend Nunze's Birthday!!
her real name is Cheryl....
We got to share the joy of a friend's new baby.....

And then Mother's Day arrived.....
and I took the girls out for tea...
Where "B' acted the perfect lady.....
A special time and a highlight of our stay....
And then there was our version of "Storage Wars"
You will see this picture down below....I have a new MacBook Air
and for the life of me cannot figure out how to delete pictures...
So disregard...
Okay....so you didn't think the Boss was going to buy himself two new cars and
I was going to be left out....
My salesman "Steve" looked like a goofy version of
George Clooney....
Of course there was a trip to Seaside to see the
"Jersey Shore" house up close and personal....
Nothing says the Jersey boardwalk like a cheap Henna Tattoo
And Greasy Food...
We went back to Chester where we used to go antique shopping 40 years ago....
and ran into an antique car show....
How cute is this.....
Chester is also filled with wonderful antique shops....
You didn't think I traded in my Bug did you...
On loan to daughter for now.....
My baby will be trailered home when she is through with it...
We celebrated a 4th Birthday!!!
And Grandpa had to explain that she couldn't open her gifts the minute
The party started.....
I got to have a night out with the high school peeps....
Always a wonderful time....

Ignore......
And then came the renovations of the Big Boss' house....
Where the man didn't even paint a wall in 35 years....
we remodeled the entire house....
The hardwoods came beautiful....
And the kitchen came adorable....

We are happy to announce that the house sold in one month....
It closes on August 31st....
Mazel to the new homeowners....

Lot's more happened after the house sold......so stay tuned for a shorter
part two....

SHAME ON MACY'S FURNITURE........The Saga continues...

Do you find that people think all women are Stupid???
And I'm talking even other women....

When I left you all some 5 months ago I told you about two sofas we had purchased
At Macy's Furniture here in Atlanta....
To jog your memory we needed to get one of the cushions replaced and when we
Heard the sofa's had been discontinued we requested a cushion off the Floor
Sample...
You can read the original post HERE and see photo's of the sofa in question...

Macy's got real testy with this request and said under No Circumstances would
they be able to give us "One" cushion off the floor model.....
Finding this a bit Odd..... to Say the Least....... I made many phone calls and
Finally got the floor sample cushion....

But upon further "sitting tests"......our butts told us that something was
Very Very Wrong.....
The New cushion was not the same as the other Five ???

Oh No.....it can't be that what they sold us on the sales floor was not the same
QUALITY as what they delivered....
Wanta Bet.....
Of course after multiple calls to Macy's Buyers in Chicago to express my concerns all they did was have their Customer Service department call me to tell me...."Oh that can't be So" Your mistaken....
The gentleman that called me thought I was some kind of Nut.....

He got me in touch with the Manufacturer....
Why was I dealing with the furniture company directly instead of Macy's handling this....
But I will say the Macy's Rep did stay in touch with me over the past five months...
And the ultimate outcome will be discussed with him in the morning...
I do have to say that he was very nice and Professional and I knew whatever the
Outcome would be that he would take care of me in the end....

The Bauhaus Company had their Rep tell me that there was no way possible that the cushions were
Different.....No Way Possible...
I agreed to accept new cushion inserts
But I tell her we were in New Jersey and I would accept them but it would have to wait until we returned and I would notify her when that would be....
Was she listening......NO.....
They sat on our front porch for one month until we came home for a week to check on things and found them sitting out in the elements in damp cardboard boxes...

This gets us to today....
We are finally back home so I arranged for the furniture Fixit Guy to come and put the
covers on the new cushions.....
What did he find????

Bauhaus sent me new Heavy Density Foam "green in color" cushion inserts.....
" Mr. Furniture Guy" says......This is the Best Quality Foam there is..
What did he remove when he took off the cushion covers.....
The Cheapest Quality Foam in white....about a third of the size of the replacements....
What was inside the infamous "Floor Model You Can't Have That" cushion....

A Green Heavy Density Foam cushion.......
You can decide for yourself but somebody is not being Honest......
I won't say Macy's knew that this was the old Retail "Bait and Switch"....

I would hope that the furniture manufacturer is at fault.....
But I still have to ask why Macy's was so adamant about me asking for the floor sample
Cushion.....

All I can say is......
CAUGHT YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AN ARLINGTON NATIONAL FUNERAL........The Big Boss Gets Put To Rest.

I have been away from blogging for a very long time.....
Since February to be exact....
When the "Big Boss" became sick and we had to go to New Jersey.....
As most of you know the Big Boss was the father to "The Boss"...
My husband John....
The Big Boss passed away on March 9th. a few months short of his 90th. Birthday...
In the Shadow of the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon in Washington sits
Arlington National Cemetery....
With all of his friends passed away and no family besides us there was no funeral
service at the time of this death.....
We opted to take advantage of the wonderful Military Service that the Government
offers to people who have served in the military....
Corporal Michael F. Adivari
Served for four years during World War Two
and was awarded the Bronze Star....
On June 30th. His ashes were laid to rest in the
Columbariam at Arlington
A total of 19 Military personal honored his service....
6 Men escorted his Urn into a covered area on the grounds for a
Catholic service....
The Firing squad stood at attention....as we passed by
A flag was carried over to the service sight....
The unfolding and the folding....
Over the Urn.....
Done with such precision.....it was amazing to watch....
For once I was speechless..
There was the "21 Gun" Salute....
And the Playing of "Taps"
Father Gabriel accepting the Flag...
And getting ready to present it.....
To the Boss....
A very Touching Moment....
Taking the Urn to it's final resting place.....
Daughter holding the presented Flag......
While they let the Boss place the Urn in the Niche.....
The Many that came before....
We were given a Lifelong special Pass to visit at any time.....When we pass away...
The Pass will go to Daughter....
And Miss "B" was a little trouper through the whole service.....

It's nice to be back.....I hope you all enjoy this post.....
It was a wonderful experience and we are all thrilled that we were able to
do this for the Big Boss....
